William Pu


Violinist

William Pu, a renowned Chinese- American violinist, has held prominent roles as Assistant Concertmaster of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and Associate Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he studied under celebrated mentors like Fredell Lack and Camila Wicks. A winner of the 1990 Music Teacher National Association Competition, Mr. Pu has performed with esteemed artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang, and Itzak Perlman. 

Throughout his career, Mr. Pu has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician with orchestras worldwide, including the Atlanta Symphony, Houston Symphony, Wroclaw Philharmonic in Poland and the Texas Music Festival Orchestra. He has served as guest concertmaster for the Dallas Symphony, Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and Hong Kong Sinfonietta and has performed in prestigious venues around the world.

A dedicated educator, Mr. Pu co-founded the William Pu Music Academy (2014) and the Atlanta Festival Academy (2019) with his wife, Amy Chang. These institutions provide high-quality music education, host international competitions, and offer community outreach programs, earning accolades like the 2023 ASTA Music Industry Award. Many of his students have won top prizes at state, regional and national competitions.

In recognition of his contributions, Mr. Pu has received honors such as the "Outstanding Georgia Citizen" award and a Georgia State Senate resolution. He continues to inspire through his leadership in music education and his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
